Pre tento dizajn nie je Controller v\u00f4bec potrebn\u00fd a jeho rolu preberie jeden z Access Pointov, ktor\u00fd mene\u017euje zvy\u0161n\u00e9 AP v sieti. Toto AP virtualizuje v\u00e4\u010d\u0161inu funkci\u00ed Controllera na spravovanie ostatn\u00fdch AP, poskytuje redundanciu, jednoduchos\u0165 konfigur\u00e1cie a sie\u0165ov\u00e9ho mene\u017ementu. Mo\u017enosti ktor\u00e9 IAP pon\u00faka s\u00fa takmer identick\u00e9 s t\u00fdmi, ktor\u00e9 s\u00fa dostupn\u00e9 v klasickej sieti s fyzick\u00fdm Controllerom, jedin\u00fd rozdiel je v robustnosti rie\u0161enia. Dostupn\u00e9 s\u00fa tak v\u0161etky funkcie ako pokro\u010dil\u00fd v\u00fdber frekvencie, r\u00e1dia, \u0161irok\u00e9 mo\u017enosti autentifik\u00e1cie, QoS a v\u0161etky aspekty bezpe\u010dnosti. Controller na z\u00e1klade Access Pointu a jeho jedine\u010dnej MAC adresy zist\u00ed o ktor\u00e9ho z\u00e1kazn\u00edka sa jedn\u00e1 a vyberia z datab\u00e1zy, spr\u00e1vnu konfigur\u00e1ciu. Ta je bezepe\u010dne poslan\u00e1 cez tunel do vzdialen\u00fdch Access Pointov. Ak sa \u010dasom nie\u010do zmen\u00ed a kan\u00e1l nie je viac vo\u013en\u00fd, automaticky sa zmen\u00ed za in\u00fd dostupn\u00fd. Autentifik\u00e1cia u\u017e\u00edvate\u013eov sa vykonav\u00e1 rovnako na Controllery, ktor\u00fd overuje priamo alebo preposiela po\u017eiadavky na in\u00e9 autentifika\u010dn\u00e9 servery ako s\u00fa radius alebo LDAP. V pr\u00edpade, \u017ee na jednom AP je pripojen\u00fdch pr\u00edli\u0161 ve\u013ea u\u017e\u00edvate\u013eov, Controller presmeruje nov\u00e9 po\u017eiadavky na in\u00fd dostupnej\u0161\u00ed Access Point, rovnako tak ak niektor\u00fd z akt\u00edvnych AP vypadne, u\u017e\u00edvatelia pripojen\u00ed k tomuto AP budu presmerovan\u00ed na okolit\u00e9 Access Pointy.
